Arrival Information to SIU at San Bernardo 97-99

FROM BARAJAS-MADRID INT'L AIRPORT

If you do not want to take a taxi from the airport, we advise that you take the Metro (subway). There is a Metro station located at the airport terminal. Take line 8 (pink) to Mar de Cristal where you will pick up line 4 (brown) to SAN BERNARDO. This is the nearest station to the study center, we are located 3 minutes away from the station. The fare is one 1 euro and ten cents.

FROM CHAMARTIN TRAIN STATION

If you arrive in Madrid by train -like after touring other European countries- you can take a taxi outside the terminal or take the CHAMARTIN Metro (subway) from the station. You will need to change to LINE 1 at PLAZA DE CASTILLA station. Ride up to CUATRO CAMINOS station and change to LINE 2. Two more stops and you will be at SAN BERNARDO station, the closest one to the study center.

TAXIS

DO NOT ACCEPT TRANSPORTATION OFFERS from people at the train or airport terminal. They are most likely illegal and will charge abusive prices. USE ONLY OFFICIAL TAXIS (white cars with a red band painted on the front doors) which can be found at designated stops outside the terminals. You will have to stand in line to get one. The driver's registration license should be clearly visible on the dashboard. The cost of the ride from the airport to the University can vary depending on several factors like traffic, night fee after 11 p.m., etc. There is a €4 special charge for services to and from the airport or train stations. These special fees ARE ADDED to the amount SHOWN ON THE METER which should be no more than €25 to downtown Madrid. MAKE SURE THAT THE DRIVER TURNS ON THE METER! Otherwise, change to another taxi. Although the majority of taxi drivers are friendly and honest with newcomers, there are always some exceptions. If you think you have been charged too much, ask for a "RECIBO" (receipt); make sure the driver annotates the taxi license number and the price on it. After you get a clear and detailed receipt you may pay the requested amount. Only with a detailed receipt and the license number will you be able to file a claim against the driver if you deem it necessary.

English: Level of Competence
Undergraduate and Graduate

If English is not your native language, you will be required to take an English Placement Examination. The test lasts two hours and is composed of:

Section 1 - Grammar and Reading Comprehension
Section 2 - Listening Comprehension
Section 3 - Essay

Section 1 and 2 are multiple choice. All sections are equally important, each carrying one third of the total marks.

The results of the English Test will determine the precise number of subjects you may take during your first semester of studies. You may also obtain advanced placement credits depending upon your test results. You can only obtain credits with this exam. TOEFL scores do not provide credits. YOU CAN ONLY TAKE THE TEST ONCE, SO IT IS VITAL THAT YOU DO YOUR BEST. If English is not your mother tongue and if you have not used the language for some time, it would be a good idea to revise as much as possible before coming to Schiller Madrid.
